Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Scarlet & Violet set logo

The first Scarlet & Violet binder can be deceptive: the printed denominator stops at 198, while a Koraidon ex in your hand may read 247/198. That is intentional: the complete Pokemon Scarlet & Violet card list has 258 numbered cards. Cards 1 through 198 form the printed set. Another 60 cards continue above that denominator.

A clean base-set binder starts with 198 pockets and adds a separate 60-card tail for the illustration and gold cards. Decide where reverse holos live before filling pages, because they do not create new collector numbers.

The official Scarlet & Violet checklist (opens in a new tab) fixes the original era set at /198. Our numbered catalog extends that official boundary through card 258 while leaving promotional cards outside the sequence.

Where the 198-card set ends

Youngster 198/198 closes the printed sequence, Tarountula 199/198 opens the 60 cards above it, and Basic Fighting Energy 258/198 ends the run. This is the generation's base set, so the printed half is unusually long and the extension unusually short.

Koraidon ex demonstrates the base set’s four-layer rarity ladder. Koraidon ex 125/198 (opens in a new tab) is Double Rare; Koraidon ex 231/198 (opens in a new tab) is Ultra Rare; Koraidon ex 247/198 (opens in a new tab) is Special Illustration Rare; Koraidon ex 254/198 (opens in a new tab) is Hyper Rare. Give each printing its own checklist mark; the shared name is not enough.

Cards 199 through 222 form the era’s first full Illustration Rare sequence, which makes a satisfying artwork section after the printed run.

This first Scarlet & Violet set introduced the modern Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rare layers. Its 24 Illustration Rares form the largest single art block here, followed by 20 Ultra Rares, 10 Special Illustration Rares, and six Hyper Rares.

Treat this as the reference binder for the whole Scarlet & Violet era: follow numbers 1258 and use rarity only as a cross-check. Koraidon ex is the clearest warning that name-only sorting collapses four different cards.

Sources and catalog method

We checked the English catalog on September 11, 2026. The TCGdex Scarlet & Violet set record (opens in a new tab) supplied the ordered names and collector numbers. The TCGCSV group 22873 export (opens in a new tab) independently supplied the rarity assigned to every numbered card.

Coverage was 258 of 258 collector numbers in both catalogs. We matched the records by collector number, then normalized punctuation, accents, and capitalization before comparing names. The official Pokemon source above controlled the printed denominator and release identity. One name is not a formatting difference: 189, 190, 240, and 241 all print as Professor's Research, and only the parenthetical tells Professor Sada from Professor Turo, so the checklist carries it. Prices, promos, reverse-holo variants, and private collection data were excluded.

After the base-set sequence is stable, write your reverse-holo choice into the Pokemon set checklist. A separate Pokemon card missing list is especially helpful here because the 60 cards above /198 are easy to overlook.

Common Scarlet & Violet checklist questions

How many cards are in Scarlet & Violet?

Scarlet & Violet has 198 cards in its printed checklist and 258 distinct numbered cards overall. The difference is a 60-card higher-numbered section beginning with Tarountula 199/198.

Do cards above 198 belong in the set?

Yes. The cards numbered 199/198 through 258/198 are the set’s Illustration, Ultra, Special Illustration, and Hyper Rares. They are part of Scarlet & Violet even though their numerator exceeds 198.

How many binder slots should I reserve?

Plan 198 slots for a printed-set build or 258 for every numbered card. If you collect reverse holos as well, place those beside or behind the matching number instead of changing the numbered total.
