How to make a Pokemon card missing list
Turn empty binder slots into a focused buying and trading plan without losing track of duplicates.
The fastest way to make a reliable Pokemon card missing list is to compare one binder against one official set list, mark gaps by collector number, and only then decide which cards belong on your buying list.
Start with the Pokemon set checklist if you have not defined the set goal yet. Use the missing-card tracker guide when the list is ready to become an ongoing wishlist.
Quick answer
Work through the set in number order. Write down the set name, collector number, card name, required finish, and quantity for every empty slot. A useful list says "Charizard ex 223/197, EN, Near Mint" rather than only "Charizard ex."
| Field | Example | Why it belongs on the list |
|---|---|---|
| Set and number | Obsidian Flames 223/197 | Distinguishes cards with the same name |
| Finish | Reverse holo | Prevents buying the wrong variant |
| Language | English | Keeps the binder consistent |
| Priority | Buy next, trade for, or wait | Turns gaps into an affordable sequence |

Audit the binder one page at a time
- Keep the official set list open beside the physical binder.
- Read the collector number on the card before marking a slot complete.
- Note empty slots and wrong finishes separately.
- Record cards that are already ordered so they are not bought twice.
- Finish the audit before opening marketplace searches.
A page-by-page audit is slower than guessing from memory and much faster than fixing duplicate purchases. It also catches cards filed on the wrong page, cards with similar artwork, and reverse holos hidden behind regular copies.
Turn the missing list into a buying order
Split the finished list into inexpensive gaps, cards worth trading for, and higher-cost cards that can wait. Buy cheap singles in combined orders when shipping would otherwise cost more than the cards. For expensive cards, compare the same number, language, finish, and condition on TCGplayer, Cardmarket, and eBay sold results.
The priority module above shows how a long checklist becomes a short next-actions list. Unbinder remains the record of what is owned; the wishlist shows what you are actively looking for. Moving a card from one to the other after arrival keeps both views accurate.
Common mistakes
- Listing only card names and overlooking repeated Pokemon in the set.
- Treating cards that are already in the mail as missing.
- Forgetting promos or reverse holos that are part of your chosen goal.
- Adding every gap to the highest priority at once.
- Comparing cards with different conditions as if they were interchangeable.
- Leaving the list unchanged after a trade, opening, or delivery.
